On the occasion of World Environment Day, the Kranj-based company Flycom Technologies, in cooperation with the Vincenc Draksler Foundation and the Municipality of Kranj, has set up an insect hotel next to the Stane Žagar Primary School, which is made from discarded school equipment. It is a project that puts into practice the principles of the circular economy, contributes to preserving the diversity of the natural environment and promotes the sustainable development of the local community.

The Vincenca Drakslerja Foundation created an insect hotel, creatively reusing discarded school chairs, desks and other materials to give them a new lease of life. At the Foundation, they don’t just give things another chance, they give people another chance. They provide training and employment for former addicts and people with disabilities. They were also involved in the creative design and construction of the bug hotel.
The World Environment Day initiative is just one of the many efforts Flycom Technologies is making to create a more sustainable local environment. This activity is part of a project for sustainable development and increasing the competitiveness of the company, for which the company has received a grant under the Public call for large investments to increase productivity and competitiveness in the Republic of Slovenia (JR INVEST2022-NOO). The company believes that by combining innovation, investment and community engagement, we can create long-term positive change and help create a better future for all.
The wooden sculpture has become a new home for different species of insects that are essential for pollinating plants and maintaining ecosystems. It is located next to the Stane Žagar Primary School, which is already putting its commitment to sustainability and environmental conservation into practice through a number of activities – the school has a green roof, an orchard with a beehive and an active beekeeping club. The insectary is an additional asset for them as it will serve as an educational tool for students and teachers to learn about the importance of preserving the diversity of life.
