In the Digital Twin Germany (DigiZ-DE) project, one of the largest LiDAR surveys in Europe, Flycom plays a significant role: we are responsible for the acquisition and processing of approximately 100,000 km² of data coverage.
This positions us among the largest contractors in the national program, which will enable Germany to achieve more advanced spatial planning, crisis management, and sustainable development.
In such an extensive project, automation is essential. Therefore, we have integrated AI-supported LiDAR point classification into our workflow, provided by Flai. Their scalable models enable more than 20 classification classes in a single run, significantly reducing processing time while maintaining high accuracy.
In the article prepared by Dr. Barbara Žabota and Blaž Vidmar and Nejc Dougan from Flai, the key challenges of nationwide classification are presented in detail—from noise filtering and power line detection to wind turbine identification—and how AI effectively addresses them.
